ItaliaDesign Field School 07

Brief
Upon returning from the ItaliaDesign Field School, the team of 12 Interaction Design students worked to produce a website that documented all of the pre-trip and in-field material from the six weeks spent studying Italian design and innovation.

Since the field school has been running for three years prior to our trip, the teams make an effort to present better and more accurately the experience than the previous years.

Process & Delivery
The group used all the visual media collected from the field school to tell the story of our experience in Italy and what we learned. The group creatively reinvented the “captured moments” section that now displays an image with a caption from a team member, describing the reasoning behind their choice of moments.

A 20-minute video slideshow was produced to summarize our time in Italy but also acted as a promotional piece to show prospective students.

Our team brought along a camcorder to video record the interviews with famous Italian designers and architects (like Alberto Meda, Atelier Mendini, Danese, Massimo Banzi, Isao Hosoe, etc.) The interviews section included parsed video clips of important quotes and comments, a photo gallery documenting the experience, and background information on the interviewee. All of this added a new depth and richness into presenting the experience of learning from these great designers. The content produced, alongside skillful team members and better technology, pioneered new crafting techniques in presenting the overall ItaliaDesign experience, which eventually lead to a short film about Italian Design from the 2010 group.

In-field projects, research papers, and information models accompanied the visual media to provide historical and theoretical context to the trip.
