Dejine Magazine
Brief
Dejine is a magazine that showcases student design projects from Simon Fraser University (SFU).
Wayne Lo and I believed in the notion that showing real work by real students would represent the school’s programs and faculties in a practical manner. It served to be a piece where students could promote their work, their engagement with courses, and be acknowledged by readers outside of SFU. We hoped Dejine would bring inspiration to current students, attract prospective students, and document the many innovative ideas coming from the university.
Process
Stemmed from an undergrad Communications course project, the School of Interactive Arts and Technology at Simon Fraser University Surrey took interest in this publication idea and funded the printing and distribution of Dejine. Our jobs were to contact students from various program streams (grads and undergrads), compile submitted work, and prepare it into a rich presentable format.
Delivery
The first issue of Dejine premiered with 24 pages during the SIAT Open House event, and the second and third issue with 16 pages. Although envisioned to be printed twice a year, Dejine is now an annual magazine printed in the Springtime. Due to our lack of connection with SFU student projects and events after graduation, Dejine has been passed on to Stella Gutierrez, Amadon Coletsis, and Andrew Drinkwater. Wayne and I continue to be involved as advisors and overseers of the magazine.
